Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former coach Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.
Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, supported by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.
He rescued 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, he earned victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
